I was in a desperate position, working overseas, and needing immediate assistance in closing down a flat, and dealing with a lot of issues that raised their heads due to a hasty departure overseas. Liz Dowsett undertook the organisation of the International Symposium on Room Acoustics held in the Victorian Arts Centre in August 2010. There were 160, mostly international, attendees at the three-day conference. The symposium was judged to be an outstanding success by the delegates. Although Liz was employed to undertake work as directed by the organising committee (three of whom were in Sydney and three in Melbourne) she was proactive in prompting the committee on what tasks needed to be undertaken and was the key to ensuring the committee worked effectively and efficiently through the use of emails and phone calls. Her work included organising venues, catering, suppliers, accommodation for international and interstate delegates, ticketing, and liaising with delegates and the Governor of Victoria's staff. Her work also involved issuing invoices and receipts and undertaking a reconciliation. All of the above was done with a helpful, gentle and calm confidence. It was a privilege to work with her.
